Detailed driving directions from the field to the hotel and back. (See attached map, “Marriott area”)
When I searched for the hotel to use for the Nationals, I wanted something that was close to the field and easy in, easy out. The Marriott fits the bill, but there are a few things to know.
The hotel is just a mile from the field and literally at the intersection of two Interstate highways. The problem is, one of them (not the one we need access to) is having major work and so if you don’t pay attention, you could get snarled in traffic. This may sound a little complicated but once you’ve given this a read, then made your first drive to and from the field, you’ll be fine.
The hotel is on the south access road of Interstate 30, which is an east-west highway. It runs from Fort Worth through Dallas and on east. The highway being worked on is Interstate 635, or LBJ Freeway, the main loop freeway around Dallas. You want to avoid getting on I-635 near the hotel. If you’re coming from either DFW airport or Dallas Love Field you’ll make your way to Downtown Dallas and then east on I-30; the hotel is roughly ten miles east of downtown. Coming from Dallas, you’ll see the exit for Eastfield College (Motley Dr.) and the exit for the hotel is one more mile, exit Gus Thomasson Rd. Coming from Dallas, take the exit and stay on the service road going under Gus Thomasson. Watch for the Crosslands hotel; the Marriott is just a block further east. The turn in to the parking lot is not as obvious on first glance as it should be but once you know where it is, it’s easy. Pay attention 'cause there's only one entrance and if you miss it, you’ll have to go to the next intersection and make a big loop to your left, back to Gus Thomasson. If driving in from the east on I-30, going west, you’ll also exit Gus Thomasson then take the bridge over the freeway and get on the east bound service road.
When leaving the hotel to go to the field, there are two ways to go. You can exit the front of the hotel onto the east bound service road of I-30 which will take you to Galloway. Make a left, cross the bridge and turn left onto the west bound service road of I-30. You can stay on the service road for a mile and a half to Motley and Eastfield College. Or you can exit the back of the hotel. As you leave the Marriott, you’ll drive through the parking lot of the arcade next door, Celebration Station. You’ll exit the parking lot onto a side street named Towne Crossing Blvd. and take a left. Then make a right on Driftwood which takes you to Gus Thomasson. Make a right on Gus Thomasson, which goes over I-30, a right on to the service road going west and it’s a mile to Motley Rd. and Eastfield. Getting back to the hotel, just get on Motley, go over I-30 and take the service road east. So there you have it; no worries!
